Dumbwaiters for Multi-Level New England Homes

Jeeves Econolift Pic1

A dumbwaiter is a small lift for goods, not people. In a New England house with a basement, two living floors and sometimes an attic, it can save dozens of trips on the stairs every week.

What people use them for

  • Groceries from the garage or basement to the kitchen
  • Laundry between the bedrooms and a basement laundry room
  • Firewood from the cellar to the living room
  • Holiday boxes and storage to and from the attic

How much room it needs

A residential dumbwaiter fits in a shaft about the size of a small closet. The stops must line up vertically, so stacked closets or the corner of a pantry above a basement are typical locations.

How much it carries

Our home dumbwaiters come in 100 lb. and 150 lb. capacities and serve up to three stops. That covers nearly all household loads.

Safety

The doors are interlocked, so they open only when the car is at that floor, and the car will not move with a door open. A dumbwaiter must never be used to carry a person or a pet.

New and existing homes

The easiest time to add a dumbwaiter is during construction or a remodel. Many are also fitted to finished homes, where we look for a route with the least disruption.

Restaurants and businesses

The heavier Jeeves Pro line serves restaurants, inns and offices, moving food and supplies between floors.

If the stairs are hard for people too

A dumbwaiter pairs well with a stair lift or a home elevator. We can price them together in one visit.
