A home elevator is a machine with moving parts, and like a furnace or a car it lasts longest when it is looked after. Most of the work belongs to a trained technician. A few simple habits are yours.
Every week or two
- Listen for new noises and notice any change in how the ride feels.
- Check that the doors and gates open, close and latch as they should.
- Keep the door tracks and the floor of the cab clean.
Fall
Before winter is the best time for a professional service visit. If you have an outdoor platform lift or stair lift, have its finish, drive and safety switches checked before the snow arrives.
Winter
Keep outdoor lifts clear of snow and ice, and keep covers on outdoor stair lifts. Indoors, dry air and heating have little effect on an elevator, but report anything unusual promptly.
Spring
After the winter, check outdoor equipment for corrosion or damage. Near the coast, a rinse and inspection of exposed metal is worthwhile.
Summer
Storms bring power cuts. Know how your elevator behaves when the power fails and how to use its emergency features. Stair lifts run on batteries and keep working.
What to leave to us
Do not lubricate, adjust or open any part of the drive or controls yourself. Call for service if the elevator stops between floors, a door will not lock, or a fault light appears.
Service plans
Ask us about a maintenance schedule for your model. Regular visits catch small problems before they become breakdowns.
