Home Elevator Cost in Greater Boston

A home elevator is a larger project than a stair lift, and the price range is wide. Four things account for most of the difference between one quote and another.

1. The type of elevator

A traditional elevator, such as our Freedom line, travels in an enclosed hoistway. A pneumatic elevator rides on air inside a clear tube and needs no pit or machine room. Because it needs less building work, a pneumatic model is often the less disruptive choice in a finished house.

2. The number of stops

Every floor served adds a landing, a door and more travel. A two-stop elevator between the first and second floors costs less than one that also reaches the basement or a third floor.

3. The finishes

Cab walls, flooring, fixtures and door style all come in a range of options. An automatic sliding door package, as on the Freedom Elite, costs more than a manual gate.

4. The construction

This is the factor that varies most in Greater Boston. In new construction, the shaft is framed along with the house at modest cost. In an existing home, floors must be opened and the structure checked. Older and attached houses can add complexity, which is why we look at the building before we quote.

Permits and inspection

Home elevators in Massachusetts are permitted and inspected. Our licensed team handles that process as part of the project, so allow time for it in your schedule.

Running costs

Plan for regular maintenance, as you would for a heating system. An elevator that is serviced on schedule gives decades of dependable use.
